All Time IPL Records: Who's Made Their Mark?

You're probably familiar with the saying, " RECORD-BREAKER ". It's one of those phrases we use to describe someone who's done something that's never been done before. And in the world of sports, it's synonymous with greatness.

Well, we're happy to say that there's a new RECORD-BREAKER in town, and her name is IPL. For those of you who aren't familiar, IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light. It's a technology that's been used for years to treat everything from acne to sun damage . . . and everything in between.

Recently, we've seen some amazing IPL records being set. So without further ado, let's take a look at some of the most impressive ones!

Most Runs in IPL

You are undoubtedly familiar with the Indian Premier League (IPL), the biggest and most popular T20 cricket tournament in the world. The IPL has seen some of the greatest players in history take to the field.

But as with any sport, it's not just the players who make the difference: the coaches, support staff, and, of course, the fans all play a role in making or breaking a team. And when it comes to cricket, nothing engages fans quite like records.

In this article, we take a look at some of the most impressive IPL records that have been set over the years. Who has scored the most runs? Who has taken the most wickets? Who is the all-time record holder for most catches? Read on to find out.

Highest Individual Scores

You've already read about the teams that have set the bar high in the world of IPL cricket. But what about the players?

Some cricketers have made their mark by scoring big individual numbers. Here are some of the highest individual scores in IPL history:

• Shane Watson – 185* (against Bangalore in 2013)

• Chris Gayle – 175* (against Pune in 2013)

• Brendon McCullum – 158* (against Delhi in 2008)

• David Warner – 150* (against Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2016)

Most Catches Taken

You're up, the ball is in your hand. You take a step back, and with all your might, you throw it to the fielder. He's out there, waiting for it. This could be the game-winning catch.

When it comes to cricket, catches make all the difference. Just like in baseball, a good catch can turn the tide of a game and make all the difference in who wins or loses.

As for IPL, there have been some amazing catches over the years. But who takes the cake for most catches? That title goes to Suresh Raina of the Chennai Super Kings, with an impressive 127 catches to his name. Close behind him is Dwayne Bravo of the Mumbai Indians with 121 catches.

Wickets Taken by Bowlers

A lot of records in the IPL are centered around batting. But bowlers deserve recognition too! So let's take a look at the bowlers who have made their mark in the IPL. Lasith Malinga, of course, holds the record for most wickets taken in the IPL with 170 wickets to his name. He's followed by Amit Mishra (157), Umesh Yadav (144), Ravichandran Ashwin (143), and Dwayne Bravo (138).

But more impressive is Anil Kumble's economy rate of 6.73 the lowest amongst all bowlers who have bowled at least 500 balls in the IPL. Kumble also holds the record for most consecutive maidens in an innings an incredible seven!

Some other astonishing records include Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s five-wicket haul against Royal Challengers Bangalore which he achieved in 3 overs, and Ajantha Mendis' 6 for 16 against Pune Warriors India in 2013 the best bowling figures ever recorded in an IPL match. Dinesh Karthik also deserves a mention for most dismissals by a wicketkeeper not just catches but stumpings too! Pretty impressive stuff!

Fastest Fifties

Everyone loves a quick-fire batsman and the fastest fifties records have certainly been broken in the IPL! So just how fast can the bat meet the ball?

Interestingly, two of the quickest fifties were achieved by two different players in the same game! Royal Challengers Bangalore’s AB de Villiers and Sunrisers Hyderabad’s David Warner both managed to get a fifty off just 22 balls during their match in 2016.

Yusuf Pathan also holds an impressive record — he scored fifty off 15 balls against Mumbai Indians in 2014. And that's not his only record-breaking moment — he also holds the record for hitting the most number of sixes (37) in an IPL inning.

But it's Virat Kohli who takes the top spot for scoring the fastest century in an IPL match. He achieved an incredible feat when he scored 100 runs off just 52 balls against Gujarat Lions in 2016. And with eight centuries under his belt, it’s no surprise he’s at the top of this list!

Top Teams in IPL History

When it comes to IPL records, one of the most notable areas is the success of teams over the years. The Chennai Super Kings have been at the top of the list since 2011, having taken home three titles and making five finals appearances. On the other hand, Mumbai Indians have accumulated the most title wins with four championships, along with six final appearances.

The Royal Challengers Bangalore has reached three finals but is yet to clinch a win, whereas Kolkata Knight Riders have won two titles and made four finals appearances. Sunrisers Hyderabad had a strong start with a championship in 2016 and two other finals appearances. Lastly, Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals trail behind with one championship each and two final appearances overall.

It's clear that these teams have been some of the most successful ones in IPL history when it comes to performance. With some of cricket's greatest names leading them, it's not hard to understand why they've made their mark.

So there you have it, the current IPL records. These may change in the future as the tournament continues to grow in popularity, but for now, these are the players who have made their mark on the IPL.
